Verify your identity
The law requires us to confirm who you are before we open your account. It takes about 5 minutes.
You will need
- A valid passport, national ID card, residence card or driving licence
- A phone or computer with a camera, somewhere well lit
- A bill, bank statement or official letter from the last 6 months if your ID does not show your address
We use your details, document images and photos of your face to verify your identity, check you against sanctions and politically exposed persons lists, and keep the records the law requires: for 5 years after our relationship ends, or 5 years after we decline your application, then we delete them unless the law requires us to keep them longer. We also record your device type, IP address and time zone to help prevent fraud. A member of our compliance team reviews every application. Photograph your identity document
Use the original document, not a copy or a screen. Place it on a dark surface, avoid glare, and fit it inside the frame. For a passport, open it flat and photograph both pages: the photo page at the bottom and the page above it.
What we read from your document
Take a live selfie
You will look at the camera, move your head slowly in a circle until the ring around your face is complete, and do two short actions (such as closing your eyes for a few seconds, or smiling). Turn your sound on: a beep tells you when to open your eyes. We then compare your face with the photo on your document. Remove sunglasses and hats; glasses are fine.

Then take a photo showing your face, the photo page of your document and the paper with the code, all clearly visible. We may also invite you to a short video call.
We show you four numbers and record a few seconds of video while you say them out loud. This lets us confirm it is really you. Allow the camera and microphone when asked.
